Prestigious award to offer knowledge boost for the Not-for-Profit Sector

Leaders in the not-for-profit sector are being encouraged to apply for the new Community Sector Banking Churchill Fellowships that will see them travel the world to observe leading practice and develop new networks. The opportunity to then apply the learnings in a local context could reap big rewards for the sector here in Australia.

Community Sector Banking, Australia’s only banking service dedicated to the not-for-profit sector, is partnering with the Churchill Trust to offer two new Churchill Fellowships in 2019 specifically to support and strengthen leaders in the Australian not-for-profit sector.  The long-term aim of these two Fellowship opportunities is to help prepare and strengthen the Australian not-for-profit sector for future success and long-term viability.

The first Fellowship will support the development of leadership skills and people and culture programs so future challenges can be met across the not-for-profit sector. The second Fellowship is open for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People to explore positive interactions and outcomes between indigenous peoples and communities and the not-for-profit sector.

Now, more than ever, there is a need to identify the issues and challenges facing contemporary and future not-for-profit leaders, including leadership skills that the sector should invest in for success. 

“The successful recipients of these two new Churchill Fellowships will be able to travel overseas and tap into best practice by experiencing first-hand how overseas based not-for-profits operate and address similar challenges. Knowledge gained from this unique opportunity will put us on the front foot in anticipating what may lie ahead for the sector in Australia,” says Community Sector Banking CEO Andrew Cairns.

“In addition to sharing their findings broadly with the Australian not-for-profit sector, on returning as Churchill Fellows they will be offered a variety of engagement opportunities with Community Sector Banking. This will include invitations to present their findings at Community Sector Banking Board meetings, conferences, and other networking events.”

Each year, Churchill Fellowships are awarded to talented Australians who are passionate about challenging the status quo to create or make a positive impact on our society.
