For his 2018 Churchill Fellowship, Owen spent six weeks in Europe studying the ethics of automated decision making in government. Before joining the public sector Owen did his PhD in neuroscience at the University of Cambridge and worked in the pharmaceutical industry and in academia. He is currently based at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute where he builds systems in software and culture that utilise administrative data for improved health care. In an attempt to learn more about data ethics and share cake with others working in this space he convenes an AI/Ethics bookclub once a month that you are welcome to join.
