I believe culture has the power to change how people see each other. Throughout my career, I have witnessed how the arts can transcend borders, create meaningful connections and build relationships between communities and nations. This belief has shaped my journey as a Venezuelan-Australian arts manager, producer and public diplomacy specialist, and continues to drive my commitment to strengthening cultural links between Australia and Latin America.
My early career in community broadcasting, spanning more than 20 years, and my work with SBS, Australia’s multicultural public broadcaster, developed my understanding of Australian audiences, representation and the power of storytelling to connect diverse communities.
Working with the International Theatre Institute of UNESCO further shaped my understanding of the arts as a global language — one capable of connecting people, strengthening relationships and creating pathways for dialogue across cultures. Over many years, I have worked across arts management, producing and public diplomacy, creating opportunities for artists, institutions and communities to connect across borders.
Today, as Executive Producer with the Australia Latin America Foundation (ALAF), I bring together my experience in arts, communications and international engagement to develop cultural diplomacy initiatives that strengthen relationships between Australia and Latin America. Through ALAF, I work with artists, cultural institutions and partners to create meaningful exchanges that position culture as a pathway for dialogue, collaboration and mutual understanding.
My Churchill Fellowship represents the next stage of this journey. I seek to understand the ecosystems, networks and models that support successful cultural exchange across Latin America, and explore how these insights can strengthen Australia’s international engagement. Through this Fellowship, I hope to contribute to a more connected Australian cultural sector and create enduring pathways for collaboration between Australia and Latin America.
