Gary Savage believes that castings can be made defect free provided principals developed and published by John Campbell are adhered to. With over 40 years of experience working within the field of casting and with foundries in Australia, Gary has a passion for making better quality castings and helping the industry benefit from doing so. In 2020 Gary was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to support his passion and learn from overseas companies that have adopted John Campbell’s methods so as to gain practical experience to assist Australian foundries with their adoption. In 2025 Gary became a Churchill Fellow upon completion of travel and submission of his Fellowship report. In 2022 Gary retired after 24 years at CSIRO working in various fields of casting. Currently he holds honorary positions at CSIRO and RMIT University which enable him to continue research related to techniques for minimising bifilms in castings and additively manufactured metal components.
