Dr Hazel MacTavish-West, the CEO and Co-Founder of Seedlab Australia Pty. Ltd, is a creative plant scientist & food industry consultant with more than 30 years’ experience in innovation, natural flavours and fragrances, colours and bioactives.

A food scientist and technologist, Hazel is actively involved in food innovation throughout the value chain, from primary producers through to consumers. Her work has a strong science core, fleshed out with commercial experience and flavoured with a passion for effective communication - for concepts, products and people.

As a passionate believer in the power of connection and sharing to assisting entrepreneurial people in not having to reinvent every wheel themselves, Hazel bounced back after her Churchill Fellowship travels, which examined nimble food factories and interviewed successful innovators. She then developed a unique program that brings the best brains in the business together to help smaller businesses be successful faster, safer and better than they ever thought possible.

After her Churchill trip, Hazel founded and leads the Seedlab Tasmania project that assists over 100 Tasmanian start-up food, beverage and agri-tourism businesses to be export-ready.

As a result of the success of this project, Woolworths has supported a two-year national program: Seedlab Australia, which will support over 700 startup and SME food and beverage businesses to start, scale and grow to supply nationally.

Hazel’s Churchill trip made her think bigger, more strategically, and realise that with experience comes the responsibility to give back and to share.
