I-Lyn is the Chief Executive Officer of the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority.
Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia, she moved to Perth, Western Australia (WA), as a Year 12 student and was awarded the Dux of her college. She holds a first-class honours degree in Environmental Engineering and Physics from the University of Western Australia, a Master of Environmental Management from the University of Adelaide and a Class 1 Operational Meteorologist Certification from the World Meteorological Organisation.
During her more than 20 years working in the Singaporean and Western Australian governments, I-Lyn has led the development and implementation of diverse policies ranging from climate change science and technology to biosecurity funding mechanisms and policy design. Her exceptional policy skills were nationally recognised when she was presented with the 2016 Australian Biosecurity Award for her work prioritising invasive species to maximise the impact of government investments for the WA agriculture sector.
I-Lyn continued to build her policy skills when appointed to the position of Principal Policy Adviser to the WA Minister for Agriculture and Food from 2017 to 2019. In this role she advised the Minister on policies impacting on the WA agriculture and food sector, guided the passage of legislation through Parliament and facilitated industry development programs.
More recently I-Lyn transitioned into economic development roles and led the development and implementation of programs to address supply chain challenges and travel restrictions due to the pandemic. These programs maintained the connection between the export-oriented WA agrifood sectors and global markets, subsequently increasing agrifood exports from WA.
I-Lyn was awarded the Churchill Fellowship in 2020 to investigate the drivers and incentives for regenerative agriculture. The Fellowship took her to New Zealand, USA, Netherlands and UK for seven weeks.
Prior to this role with WAMIA, I-Lyn was the Acting CEO of the Wheatbelt Development Commission, a role facilitating regional economic development in WA’s Wheatbelt region.
