Jessica Gethin

Jessica is an Australian conductor hailed by audiences and critics for her stellar musicianship, vibrant energy and charismatic stage presence.

Passionate about connecting with audiences across the globe, Jessica has forged an impressive international conducting career working in the United States, Asia, Australia and New Zealand including performances with Dallas Opera, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Canberra Symphony, Perth Symphony, Singapore Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic, Macao Orchestra and regular seasons with the West Australian Ballet.

Jessica is fast being recognised for her repertoire diversity, as she moves effortlessly between conducting core symphonic works, mainstage opera and ballet to contemporary and film score. Her dedication to uphold integrity for the score combined with bold programming choices, a natural flair for communicating with audiences and a commitment to foster the next generation of young musicians has contributed to her rapidly growing profile as a leader in the arts both on and off the podium. Across all her work, Jessica is committed to championing classical music as it enters the twenty-first century, regularly collaborating with composers and conducting world premieres. Accolades include being listed in Limelight Australia’s Top Twenty Australian Artists, winner of the Brian Stacey Australian Conductor Award, listed in AFR’s 100 Most Influential Women, receiving a 2016 Churchill Fellowship and being named a finalist in the West Australian of the Year Awards for Arts and Culture. Jessica was founding conductor of the Perth Symphony until 2019, as well as Inaugural Fellow at the Hart Institute of Women Conductors with the Dallas Opera. A Bachelor of Music graduate from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Jessica has returned as faculty lecturer in orchestral conducting. Jessica is often engaged as a presenter, guest speaker, conducting clinician and adjudicator for festivals, competitions and music eisteddfods as well as keynote speaker on the topics of the arts, leadership and diversity.

Jessica’s passion for sharing the love of music and connecting Australian artists with their audiences has led her to found the Australian Music Project Initiative which will be launched in late 2021.
