Jon Swain is a Homelessness Manager in Sydney, NSW.
Increased temperatures and primary homelessness rates within Australia are compounding to become an imminent crisis. Jon has seen first-hand the increasing risk that extreme heat is placing on those experiencing primary homelessness and the need to develop responses that mitigate hospitalisation, heat stroke or death.
Jon believes that our primary responsibility is to ensure responses to extreme heat are provided to those sleeping rough in a timely and targeted manner and are designed alongside those experiencing homelessness.
Over sixteen years of experience at State, Local and Non-Government homelessness services Jon is driven by his desire to ensure that all possible strategies and initiatives are explored to mitigate heat risks for highly vulnerable populations. He has been involved in research and policy design that looks at reducing heat risk to those experiencing homelessness, regularly presents at conferences on heat and homelessness and has developed policy and protocol responses to support those sleeping rough as a result of heat events.
Jon holds a Masters in Social Development from University of New South Wales and has completed an Advanced Diploma in Community Management.
