Joy Cocker has a post graduate Degree in Social Work from the Australian Catholic University and has worked as a clinical social worker, counsellor, trainer and an advance care planning (ACP) specialist in Canberra Health Service.
In 2014 Joy was awarded the Dr Dorothea Sandars and Irene Lee Churchill Fellowship to explore ACP Program which respect and honour people's wishes for health care including at the end of life - Canada and the USA.
Joy has presented widely on ACP at national and international forums. In 2016 she was appointed as an ACP specialist to work on a research translation project with the Cognitive Decline Partnership Centre in Sydney on improving ACP for people with dementia.
Joy has a special interest in investigating how the experience of death and dying, grief and loss can be a positive experience in shaping and enriching life.
