Kellie Charles is a passionate educator and is committed to inspiring and training the next generation of health leaders with future-oriented skills and knowledge to explore Australia’s wicked challenges with open, respectful curiosity. She aims to improve student’s ability to problem-solve creatively and collaboratively by designing curricula that enhance technological proficiency, critical analysis, ethical acumen, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Kellie is an Associate Professor in Pharmacology at The University of Sydney and leading Australian health professions educator with over 15 years of higher education teaching experience. She holds a PhD in Medicine (clinical cancer pharmacology) and a Bachelor of Science (pharmacology and microbiology).
In 2018, Kellie pivoted to an education-focused career and has led education research projects amalgamating cutting-edge technological advances and educational pedagogies into innovative inter-professional learning and professional skill development curricula. Her impact in curriculum design have been recognised with award of a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in UK (2021) and Outstanding Excellence in Teaching Award (ASCEPT, national pharmacology society, 2020). She has presented her education research across local, national and international higher education workshops and conferences.
Kellie has recently turned her research focus towards a bold, visionary project to integrate AI into a human-centred curriculum to equip students with digital literacy skills. This project aims unlock the boundless possibilities of AI in higher education. Kellie's leadership across university networks and national professional educator societies embodies a commitment to mentor and empower fellow educators in navigating these dynamic shifts within higher education. This project not only enhances the competitiveness and innovation of our nation's higher education system but also cultivates a generation of ethically conscious and technologically-adept citizens who are equipped to navigate and shape the AI-powered future.
