Dr Liz Brogden works to advance climate action in architecture, focusing on the role of architecture education within sector-scale sustainability transitions. She believes that education research is needed to develop climate literacy in architecture, not only through university program development but also to inform degree accreditation standards, pathways to registration as an architect, and continuing professional development requirements.

Liz leads a cross-university Climate Action and Literacy in Architecture Education project, jointly funded by the Association of Architecture Schools Australasia (AASA) and the Australian Institute of Architects. She has previously served on the national Climate Action and Sustainability Taskforce for the Australian Institute of Architects and currently sits on its Queensland State Chapter Climate Action and Sustainability Committee.

Liz has coordinated university programs that focus on climate and sustainability from undergraduate through to postgraduate levels, and across multiple design disciplines. She has received two Vice Chancellor Awards at QUT for teaching excellence and was on the winning team for the overall 2021 Global Education Award given by QS Reimagine Education. Now at The University of Queensland, she is working in the School of Architecture to develop one of Australia’s first mandatory courses focusing on climate change within a Master of Architecture degree, to be implemented from 2023.
