I believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, high-quality healthcare, regardless of their circumstances. That belief has shaped my career as a Registered Nurse and continues to drive my commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
For the past eight years, I have worked in street-based primary healthcare, building trusted relationships with people facing some of the most complex health and social challenges in our community. I now lead a multidisciplinary team of nurses, case workers and peer support workers delivering assertive outreach healthcare to people experiencing homelessness.
Throughout my career, I have been particularly drawn to supporting women during pregnancy. Working alongside women whose pregnancies are affected by homelessness, family and domestic violence, mental ill-health, alcohol and other drug dependence, and child protection involvement has reinforced my belief that healthcare must be flexible, trauma-informed and integrated with housing and social support to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.
My frontline clinical experience has informed research and advocacy to improve healthcare access for pregnant women experiencing homelessness. I am also a member of the Australian Pregnancy and Homelessness Coalition and value the opportunity to collaborate with clinicians, researchers and service providers committed to strengthening care across Australia. In 2024, I was honoured to receive the WA Primary Healthcare Nurse of the Year award and co-authored research examining barriers and enablers to accessing antenatal care while homeless.
Through my Churchill Fellowship, I hope to learn from leading international models of health and social care for pregnant women experiencing homelessness and bring those learnings back to Australia. My vision is to help shape more integrated, compassionate services that give every woman the opportunity to experience a healthy pregnancy and, wherever possible, keep mothers and babies safely together.
