Detective Inspector Warren Lysaght has had a decorated and distinguished career in the NSW Police Force spanning three decades, primarily within State Crime Command. His expertise lies in criminal investigations, particularly in organised crime, armed robberies and drug investigations. Serving as the Investigations Coordinator of the Chemical Operations Team at the Drug and Firearms Squad, Warren leads a team of criminal investigators that target those who harm the community through the manufacturing of prohibited drugs. Warren is dedicated to ensuring a professional response is provided to all clandestine drug laboratories discovered across New South Wales whilst maintaining a high degree of safety for police, the community, property and the environment.
Warren's commitment to continuous improvement and progress is evident in his approach to law enforcement. His leadership has been recognised with the Perpetual Commissioners Safety Award in 2022, underscoring his role in enhancing community safety in NSW. Warren plays a pivotal role in knowledge sharing, actively developing and contributing to the delivery of various police courses designed to improve the capability and skills of police officers in both metropolitan and regional settings.
The issue of synthetic opioids has become a global epidemic. Warren's selection for the prestigious 2024 Donald Mackay Churchill Fellowship gave him the opportunity to investigate effective strategies and programs implemented in areas heavily affected by synthetic opioids. Warren's study emphasises community engagement and collaboration across agencies to strengthen Australia's defences against synthetic opioids. He is particularly interested in exploring transparent partnerships, open collaboration, and community involvement as crucial components in combating this ongoing threat.
