Download

Salvatore Zofrea AO has lived in Australia since he was nine years old. He was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1986 to enrich his own fresco painting by studying frescoes of the Renaissance masters in Italy. After his Fellowship his painting career went from strength to strength. His work is exhibited in Australian and American galleries.

Salvatore developed a unique symbolic vision that depicts a vernacular Australian mythology. He won the Sulman Prize in 1977, 1979 and 1982. In 2014 he exhibited works in all three competitions, entering works for the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. In 2014 he was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to art.

He writes in his report: ‘My real report will appear, I hope, on various walls in Australia in the years to come.’ His hopes have been fulfilled.
