The Churchill Fellowship gave me invaluable insights into different models of making theatre in a European context, particularly visual and physical-based theatre – rarely experienced in Australia outside of international festivals. The first-hand access to process and to artists during my travels gave me the confidence to pursue a range of different inventive projects when I came back.

Since that time I have continued to work in the performing arts, creating small and large-scale works in an Australian context. This has included a performance about the 2003 Canberra Bushfire disaster called Blue Print, performed at Carriageworks in Sydney in 2007, as well as a series of performances with local and overseas artists that directly engage with different communities living in Western Sydney.

In addition I have undertaken my PhD to further explore the potential of innovative theatre practice to engage and inspire with its imaginative reflections on contemporary living. I currently teach performance practice and theory at the University of Wollongong.

I think I have the most fun work in the world – which means that work and life blur into one. I love going to the theatre, talking about it with friends and writing about it for various organisations.

This leaves very little time for much else other than the baking of cakes, which I also enjoy immensely. (My favourite is Streusel cake.)
