Conclusion:

Although the marriage as such is over after 47 years, Netball NZ and TVNZ have not served the papers on one another for divorce and have now negotiated a more open relationship. TVNZ can only afford to ‘date’ netball a limited number of times a year, and the pay broadcaster SKY is hoping that its three year financial commitment to the sport is going to pay off. Aside from the four yearly World Championships and the well established international programme, the ANZ Championship, which in essence increases the number of sporting clashes between NZ and Australia, carries the hopes of this very culturally specific game, into the next decade. Time will tell if the right choices have been made on both sides of the Tasman, or whether the dominance of the televised game in New Zealand will become increasingly vulnerable to the dictates of the globalised world of mediated sport.
