  • That the Australian government continue funding the Australian Academy of Science’s Primary Connections project. 
  • That the support for teachers to teach science in primary schools be substantially increased over the long term, and a culture of continuous improvement be promoted for teacher professional learning in primary science. 
  • That state and territory education departments establish systems of accountability and support for the teaching of science in primary schools. 
  • That corporate, industry and community groups consider supporting the teaching of science in primary schools. 
  • That clear statements of the characteristics of inquiry-based approaches to primary science education are developed and communicated to teachers and used to evaluate the impact of approaches. 
  • That ongoing research is continued as part of the Primary Connections project. 
  • That the Australian Academy of Science position itself as a national hub for the promotion of primary science education. 
  • That Primary Connections is promoted both in Australia and internationally.

Awards and Honours

  • 2014 awarded Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to primary education, particularly science, to curriculum development, and to professional organisations.
