Highlights of Fellowship

• Observing the seamlessness of the rehabilitation team at St Thomas’s hospital

• Observing the mobilization of patients on ECMO at St Thomas’s hospital and Toronto General hospital

• Meeting Dr Rik Gosselink and the energetic team of physiotherapists at UZ Leuven, their approach to research, clinical education and patient care was inspiring

• Watching the ease with which physiotherapists mobilized patients in France and Toronto despite ventilation and multiple attachments. Easily the most impressive was to see a treadmill brought into intensive care bed spaces and watch as physiotherapists mobilized ventilated patients on it with ease

• Meeting Dr Dale Needham and experiencing the fluidity of early mobilization of patients at John Hopkins

 • Witnessing the positive, proactive culture towards mobilization existent in all the intensive care units visited.
