The Barbara Matthews Churchill Fellowship to explore research collaborations between music education programs and neuroscience laboratories - USA, Canada

My Churchill Fellowship aimed to explore how music programs and neuroscience research laboratories collaborate to produce research that assists educational and scientific knowledge and practices. Neuroscientists have found that music education has significant positive impacts on brain development in young children, especially disadvantaged children. Most of this research has not been conducted in an ongoing partnership between music program and lab. A collaborative partnership now exists with the Harmony Project (LA) and Northwestern University Auditory Neuroscience Lab. The Fellowship project explored if and how this model could be replicated in Australia, and how the research could improve educational outcomes.
