To engineer nitric oxide breath sensors to assist in the diagnosis and management of asthma - UK, USA
Download

A number of key learnings and conclusions were made over the course of my Fellowship:

  • I have deepened my knowledge and understanding of bioinorganic chemistry. During my time overseas I have developed ongoing collaborations in this area.
  • The simplicity of semiconductor gas sensors makes them ideal for use in a breath sensor. I recommend using a hybrid of protein film voltammetry and semiconductor sensors to develop a cheap and simple-to-use breath device.
  • We must keep the end goal in mind. For our sensor to have maximum impact it must be suitable for daily home use. This goal must guide all our development to ensure that we produce a device that will benefit asthma management. To this end it is important to begin discussing our technology with device manufacturers to ensure that our plans are in-line with their systems and requirements.
