David Trebeck CF, National Chair of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, has announced he will be stepping down from the position on 31st January 2025, the end of the Trust’s financial year.
The Board of the Trust has determined that his successor will be Dr Richard Roylance CF, Chair of the Queensland Selection Committee and National Board member since 2020.
He is a Specialist Paediatrician with a special interest in Child Protection, although his work with vulnerable children has expanded over time into issues related to vulnerable people generally.
His 1995 Churchill Fellowship focused on child abuse prevention and involved travel to the UK, Norway and USA. Later, he was a member and President of the Churchill Fellowship Association Queensland (CFAQ) for many years and is a Life Member of the Association.
David Trebeck said it has been a great honour to have led the Trust for the past 8 years, a time of considerable innovation and growth, and also coping with the dislocation and challenges wrought by the Covid pandemic.
“At its core, the Trust is its people: the Churchill Fellows whose inspiring journeys and boundless optimism continue to reach new heights.
“I have met so many people from all walks of life that never would have been possible without my involvement in the Trust. It commenced 50 years ago this year when I travelled on my own Fellowship, the details of which are still very fresh in my mind.
“As I hand over the reins, I have complete confidence that the Trust is in excellent financial health and good hands.
“Richard will be a very fine Chair. He has an inquiring mind and the ability to think laterally, while the Board comprises dedicated and insightful members with diverse backgrounds and experience.
“Similarly, the Trust is blessed to have an outstanding management team, now being led by CEO, Christine Dacey. They, too, have faced considerable challenges in recent times and continue to show their loyalty to the organisation and enthusiastic support for Fellows across the country.
Richard Roylance has extensive experience in both the Government and non-government (NGO) sectors and has served on a number of local, national and international Committees and Boards.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to give back to the Trust; to support and empower the Fellows and their important work; and to continue the legacy begun 60 years ago in remembrance of Sir Winston Churchill,” Richard said.
