The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust is opening 2025 Churchill Fellowship applications today.

A Fellowship is a unique chance to travel internationally, investigate global best practice in an industry/sector and apply it on return. Applications close 1 May 2025.

28 February is also the 60th anniversary of the event that launched Churchill Fellowships – a major fundraising doorknock, four weeks after the death of Sir Winston Churchill.

The doorknock raised millions of pounds, leading to banks opening on a Sunday to collect the takings. It was one of the most significant fundraising events in Australian history, and helped more than 4700 people be awarded Churchill Fellowships.

Any Australian citizen or permanent resident is eligible for a Fellowship – there is no education qualification required, and any idea or industry will be considered.

The impact of Churchill Fellows is ‘hidden in plain sight’ across Australian society:

  • Katherine Webber’s Churchill Fellowship studied ways that public toilets can be more accessible for everyone in a community
  • Alireza Kashani is pioneering 3D-printed housing in Australia
  • Simone Carson’s Churchill Fellowship allowed her to apply global best practice to the food program charity, SecondBite

The Trust was established shortly after the death of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965 to administer Fellowships as his legacy. 2025 is the 60th anniversary of the Trust.
