Recently, the Churchill Trust, together with TAFE SA, hosted an event to showcase the work of Churchill Fellow, Paul Triglau.

Paul Triglau was awarded the Dr Susan Nelle Churchill Fellowship in 2019 to learn artisan baking and patisserie methods to establish an Italian-focused course at TAFE SA.

The event was a special opportunity for the organisations and individuals who had supported Paul’s Fellowship to find out about his Churchill Fellowship journey, what he learned, his recommendations, and plans for the future. And enjoy the amazing food Paul prepared! There were smiles all around.

About the Dr Susan V Nelle Churchill Fellowship

The Susan V Nelle Churchill Fellowship was established through the collaborative efforts and contributions of Food SA, the Centre for Global Food and Resources University of Adelaide, and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA, with additional funding from numerous generous individuals.*

In 2019, a group of dedicated friends and colleagues of Susan Nelle came together to organise this sponsored Churchill Fellowship, to honour the exceptional contribution that Susan had made to the food and beverage industry and higher education in South Australia.

Susan Nelle was well known for her ability to inspire and bring together individuals, organisations and industries. Her approach was to harness the expertise of leading food companies to partner with government. Susan was passionate about driving growth in the food industry, and she championed relationships between industry and government that were based on openness, mutual respect, and a commitment towards shared values. Susan regularly travelled to rural areas across South Australia to engage and inspire emerging regional food groups and artisan producers.

Amongst her many achievements, in 1999 she introduced the Premier’s Food Awards to recognise and foster excellence throughout the industry.

When the Susan Nelle Churchill Fellowship was first announced, it seemed fitting that Paul Triglau – who was proposing to travel to Europe to refine his artisan baking and patisserie skills – was awarded this special sponsorship.

* The Trust would like to take this opportunity to thank the many generous individuals and food industry members who supported and generously contributed to this Fellowship: Food SA, the Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA, the Centre for Global Food and Resources University of Adelaide, Mark Laucke, the Susan Collins Angas Memorial Fund, Craig Johns, Michael Milan, Margot and Andy Davidson, Haighs Pty Ltd, Margaret Lehmann, Janet Davidson, Lynne Yeannakis, Tim Mares, Theo Simos, Susan Avery and Phillip Taylor, Catherine Sayer, Ian Dixon, Staffan Ehnbom, Daniel Gregg, Adam Davey, and Sarah Wheeler.
