Every year, Australians from every sector, industry and community are invited to take a bold step — to explore a question, challenge a system, investigate global best practice, and bring practical solutions home.

A Churchill Fellowship offers the opportunity to travel overseas for four to eight weeks to study an issue or idea in depth, learning directly from leading practitioners, researchers and organisations around the world.

But many potential applicants never consider applying. Often, they are busy solving problems, improving systems, or quietly making a difference in their field.

That’s where you can help.

Think about the people around you. Is there someone in your organisation, network or community who has been asking big questions about how things could be done better? Someone who has identified a challenge or opportunity but knows the answers might lie beyond Australia?

A Churchill Fellowship might be exactly the opportunity they need.

Churchill Fellowships support Australians to travel internationally, investigate best practice in their chosen field, and then share what they have learned for the benefit of the Australian community.

Importantly, there are no restrictions on profession, sector or academic qualifications. Applicants simply need a clear idea, the motivation to investigate it globally, and a commitment to share what they learn when they return.

For example, Bernadette Black AM CF (2024) has continued championing a whole-of-community approach to early intervention and prevention. Through national advocacy and leadership, she is advancing the vision of Australia becoming a true “prevention nation”, translating global insights into practical reforms that protect children and strengthen families.

These kinds of impacts often begin with a simple moment — someone encouraging another person to apply.
If someone comes to mind, please share this opportunity with them.

Applications for the 2026 Churchill Fellowship round are now open and close at 5pm, Thursday 30 April 2026.

You can help by sharing the information with your networks, colleagues and communities.
