Queensland Churchill Fellow Stuart McGruddy is featured in Winston’s Harvest, a national video series from the Winston Churchill Trust Australia showcasing Australians using global insights to strengthen local industries.
Through his Hort Innovation-supported Churchill Fellowship, McGruddy travelled to the USA, France, Chile and Serbia to investigate advanced freezing techniques for whole soft berry fruits. His research identified methods that better preserve texture, flavour and shelf life, helping producers reduce waste, improve product quality and expand export opportunities.
Based in Caboolture, McGruddy’s award-winning business, My Berries, has gained recognition for its innovative approach to reducing edible food waste and supporting local farmers, with its sustainably sourced berry products earning the nickname “the popcorn of fruit”.
Winston’s Harvest highlights how Churchill Fellows are translating international learning into practical impact across Australia’s agriculture, horticulture and food sectors.
