The Peter Mitchell Churchill Fellowship to explore how to design better cities for women and girls through urban planning and design featured image
Historically, cities have been designed and built predominantly by men, for men. The experience of feeling unsafe or a lack of belonging in public spaces and transport systems mean women and girls can be restricted from participating in work, play or study. It is also critical that city-makers aren’t gender blind. This project will investigate city governments and organisations that are implementing innovative policies, projects and technology to make cities safer, more inclusive and welcoming for women and girls. By visiting key sites, observing the impacts of policies and projects, and interviewing experts, this study tour will enable Australian cities to become more inclusive and equitable for everyone.
