Report Summary
Kate Cavanough has always loved cities - their rich history, diverse communities and constant change - which enhanced interest in urban design. Kate's Fellowship explored best practice for estate regeneration, observing 54 social housing renewal and redevelopment projects in the UK as a result of shifts in policy and practice.
From these projects, Kate highlights opportunities that may be replicated in Australia. She recommends a holistic approach that places residents at the centre, quality design, and transparent, accountable delivery. In addition, maintaining day-to-day services and long-term stewardship of assets, will build resident confidence and safeguard social outcomes amid regeneration.
