To explore strategies to strengthen remote Aboriginal communities' responses to suicidal distress featured image
Nearly 1,000 Indigenous lives have been lost to suicide in the last 5 years—2.5 times the non-Indigenous rate. Remote communities face extreme isolation, critical service gaps, workforce shortages & a lack of culturally safe crisis care—leaving many without timely, life-saving support. I will study Indigenous-led models overseas that have successfully reduced suicide through real-time monitoring, mobile crisis teams & community-led response. By engaging directly with those delivering, designing & sustaining these solutions, I will explore how early intervention, cultural healing & coordinated, community-driven care can be adapted to strengthen responses & empower Aboriginal leadership across remote Australia.
