To investigate global-scale solutions in biodiversity informatics featured image
Understanding what species live in which places is vital for reducing biodiversity loss. To address this challenge, researchers and institutions share biodiversity information via international databases; but these databases are prone to errors resulting from disagreement or asynchrony among providers. In this project, I will explore international perspectives on ways to embed scientific philosophies - such as peer review and quantifying uncertainty - alongside the more pragmatic paradigms embedded within IT infrastructures. By so doing, I hope to improve outcomes for researchers, decision-makers and citizen scientists, while also fostering a sense of collaboration and community among biodiversity data users.
