To investigate international approaches to Voluntary Assisted Dying for people who have lost decision making capacity

There is ongoing debate in Australia regarding whether people who have lost decision making capacity (DMC) should be able to access Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) - this is a complex & important issue. Netherlands, Belgium, Spain & Canada have varying VAD approaches for people who have lost DMC. Debate on this issue in Australia is hampered by 1. limited understanding of how international VAD approaches work in the real world 2. sparse local knowledge & experience - across Australia, DMC is required throughout the VAD process. This project will provide timely, nuanced & multi-faceted insights from overseas, which will help foster well informed future debate & deliberation of this issue across Australia.
