To investigate models of support that enable autistic people to access and enjoy bushwalking featured image

I will research best practice guidelines, processes and approaches across North America that improve access and experiences for autistic people on bushwalking trails. I will spend time with bushwalking companies who have specialised resources and supports in place for autistic people; interview people who’ve set up support systems on trails designed for autistic people including the first of its kind Autism Nature trail in New York State; interview and hike with autistic bushwalkers and guides; spend time with groups set up specifically for autistic bushwalkers; learn how two autistic hikers requiring very substantial support have excelled on the trails and observe programs teaching young autistic people how to hike successfully.
