All educators should grapple with the question, ‘What do we want the students we teach to be like as adults?’ We should continually press for a full discussion about what education is for. The current default is an artificial approach pitched at examinations and university entrance. The purpose of a quality education is much more than this. It is part of a civic effort; it is about creating humans, not just test-takers.
