This project seeks to learn from overseas skate groups' activities in the areas of gender equity, inclusive and innovative skatepark designs and 'skate friendly' city planning, and consent education and violence prevention in skateboarding. There is a need for more targeted events, education programs, and initiatives in Australia that challenge stereotypes about skateboarders and skating, and that can turn around a lack of diversity behind the scenes.
The aim of the project is to:
- Co-create community guidelines and inclusive skate designs and planning and adopt codes of conduct in talks with more established groups in Germany, France and the UK.
- Highlight case studies in both older and new skate scenes (such as in Singapore) where women and other non-traditional skaters creatively disrupt exclusionary skate spaces.
- Carve out stronger Australian connections with international networks and groups who make spaces more creative, safer and welcoming for all.
