To research the impact of deceptive online design practices on wellbeing and strategies to mitigate harm featured image

The digital world claims to offer choice like never before but some businesses are using design to steer people’s choices. Deceptive and manipulative online design is costing people money, loss of control over their personal information and ultimately impacting their wellbeing when steered to make choices that are not in their best interests. This project's aim was to further understand the issue from three perspectives:

- How an individuals’ wellbeing is impacted and what can people do to reduce the risk of harm.

- What changes in digital business models are consumer and human-interest groups advocating for.

- What governments can be and are doing to mitigate the use of deceptive and manipulative online design.

In just over seven weeks, Chandni visited seven countries, speaking to more than 70 experts across 25 organisations to explore how leading jurisdictions are addressing hidden digital harms and what Australia can learn.
