To study developments in police media relations with particular emphasis on police/community involvement initiatives featured image

Victorian Geoff Wilkinson visited the United States, Canada, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom to study developments in police-media relations, focusing on police/community involvement initiatives. Geoff also returned with many ideas for improvement in this country – improvements that were implemented in the next two years.

In 1987, as a direct result of Geoff’s Fellowship, the first Australian ‘Crime Stoppers’ program was begun. It was a resounding success and by the late 1980s all Australian states and territories had adopted the scheme.
