Projects and Reports

Churchill Fellows make a difference in all aspects of Australian life, across an incredibly broad and diverse range of topics and issues.

From healthcare, education, and the arts to agriculture, science, defence, and community development, each report reflects a deep commitment to improving Australian society. Fellows explore real-world challenges, connect with global experts, and return with fresh insights that inform policy, practice, and innovation at home.

These reports provide a rich and searchable resource for individuals, organisations, and decision-makers seeking solutions and inspiration across sectors.

Reports are listed with the most recently completed first. This page will update as new reports are added.

Fellowship Report

Japan is the newest epicentre of handmade and bespoke footwear and is home to some of the world’s finest shoemakers. By contrast Australia has just a handful of shoemakers that have the skills necessary to create hand welted footwear (hand welting is a construction method indicative of the highest quality footwear). Through his Churchill Fellowship, Josef investigates the Japanese shoe making industry in detail, meets its makers, supporting tradespeople and learns from some of its masters.
