WINETASTING MASTERCLASS
Mike Hayes (2012) has been a wine industry professional for 39 years and is involved in all aspects of the industry including education, consulting and vineyard design. Mike is the first Queenslander to win a Gold Medal at the Sydney Royal Wine Show. Through his success in the industry, Mike was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2012 from which he conducted a research study into autochthonous varieties throughout Europe.
Mike brings his extensive expertise and a reflection on his Fellowship findings to the 2021 National Convention of Churchill Fellows with a Wine Tasting Masterclass, focussing on emerging wine varieties that will adapt to climate change in the future. Mike takes you through a detailed tasting of 14 wines that have adapted to the change of climate in Europe, with a focus on the history of each variety, typicity of style, aromas and flavours and where the wine is viewed in the marketplace.
