Alphonsus Shields (CF 2019) was born and grew up in Darwin, Northern Territory (NT), he is of mixed First Nations heritage, Aboriginal (Nyikina Western Australia) and Torres Strait Islander (Boigu Island) with some European/Malaysian lineages.

Alphonsus has worked in various forms of Government in Australia since 1996:

  • Australian Federal Police (Protective Service Officer)
  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC), the predecessor of the Commonwealth Government Department National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA)
  • Centrelink Department of Human Services (Customer Service Centre/Indigenous Call Centre)
  • Currently employed as a Senior Constable with the NT Police in Australia

His passions and focus are advancing First Nations peoples to promote into Senior Government positions, across all forms of Government. He is a member of the Senior Aboriginal Reference Group (SARG) Committee, representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) employees across all NT Government.
