Behind the Scenes at the Museum: new perspectives on diversity and equality in our cultural institutions.

Join Lara Torr (CF 2016) for a reflective tour of the South Australian Museum. Lara is a SA Museum employee and has explored how museums can expand their reach and meaning and will outline strategies to engage, welcome and collaborate with visitors.

Lara Torr is the Manager of Strategic Projects at the South Australian Museum and founded the organisations access programs in 2015. Her role at the Museum builds on 15 years of work in access, inclusion and community engagement across the arts and cultural sectors.

Lara was a founding board member of Access2Arts and, in 2017, undertook a Churchill Fellowship, exploring accessible programs in international galleries and museums. This research continues to inform the development and growth of access programs at the South Australian Museum and, through the Arts and Cultural Access Community of Practice, Lara provides guidance and mentoring to arts sector colleagues across South Australia.

This non-traditional ‘behind the scenes’ tour invites attendees to handle objects and reflect on their own responses to the Museum’s collections through conversation.
