Professor Lisa O'Brien is an occupational therapist and accredited hand therapist (as awarded by the Australian Hand Therapy Association). She currently has two key streams of research:

  • Clinical research, specifically the management of upper limb injuries and limb absence; and
  • Health Services Research, including workforce design, evidence based practice, and health literacy

She joins Swinburne University of Technology as the Course Coordinator (Occupational Therapy) in 2022, where she will also continue her research into musculo-skeletal disorders of the hand and wrist.

As evidenced in her Churchill Fellowship, she is specifically interested in the design of custom-made orthotic and prosthetic interventions that are client-centred, affordable, and easy to use.

Professor O’Brien’s most recent role was as Director, National Disability Insurance Agency's Evidence Service and she remains an Adjunct member of the Department of Occupational Therapy, Monash University.
