Our mission, as the Board of The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust is to empower people from all walks of life to bring new ideas and positive change to their communities, for the benefit of all Australians. We are known for supporting the widest range of ideas and initiatives that align with emerging changes in society’s values, helping to build a more inclusive and fairer society.
Through the awarding of Churchill Fellowships, we are staunch advocates for the power of listening, reflecting, and engaging with others. We encourage people to be curious and draw on multiple perspectives and experiences other than their own to develop a deeper understanding and to share and apply this knowledge to advance our society.
Churchill Fellowships provide a platform for many Australians who otherwise might not be heard. The power of having a voice and being heard has paved the way for many Churchill Fellows to innovate and implement initiatives, programs and services that improve the lives of all Australians, including our most marginalised people.
All Churchill Fellows represent Australia on the international stage, acting as global ambassadors. Given that Australia has made commitments to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Churchill Fellows may increasingly be asked about these issues by international and local connections, especially in a year when all Australians are being asked if they support the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament. We encourage all Churchill Fellows to listen and learn more about this proposal and engage in respectful conversations with a view to how we might improve outcomes for all Australians.
