Questacon turns 35 - founded by Churchill Fellow featured image

Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre is a remarkable institution founded by the late Professor Michael Gore, a distinguished Churchill Fellow.

We were so pleased to gather last week at a stakeholder event to mark the 35th anniversary of Questacon’s iconic building, which was built as a collaborative project between Australia and Japan for the bicentennial.

At the event, we were pleased to hear from His Excellency Mr. Suzuki Kazuhiro, Ambassador of Japan to Australia. We also heard from Jo White, Director of Questacon, the Hon Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science, and Professor Brian Schmidt, Vice-Chancellor of the The Australian National University, and Questacon Presenter, Joel Barcham spoke to Pepper, the engaging humanoid robot.

Professor Gore’s daughter, Sue, told us they tracked his travels on his Churchill Fellowship by pinning postcards he sent back home to a map of the world.

More information on the origins of Questacon and Founder, the late Professor Michael Gore is here.

Thinking of becoming a Churchill Fellow? Applications open 1 March 2024.
