The Chair of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, David Trebeck, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Rachael Coghlan as the Trust’s CEO, succeeding Adam Davey who resigned late last year after more than seven years in the role.

Rachael is currently an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Parliamentary Services and a former CEO of Craft ACT. She is also Deputy Chair of the Cultural Facilities Corporation and a director of the Canberra Region Tourism Leaders Forum.

Her PhD (from ANU) focused on museum participation and the power of individuals to make a difference, with particular reference to the Museum of Australian Democracy. She also has a first-class honours degree in Communications from the University of Canberra and has worked at the National Museum, the Museum of Australian Democracy and the National Arboretum.

Rachael will commence at the Trust in mid February.

David Trebeck said that Rachael’s particular strengths included strategic development and stakeholder engagement, plus she had extensive experience in roles analogous to the Trust, working with Boards as CEO, corporate governance and financial management.

She was selected from a strong field of more than 50 applicants.

Rachael said she was excited to be joining the Trust and working with its staff, the Board and the many members of the “Churchill family”.

“In the lead up to the Trust’s 60th anniversary, I look forward to the opportunity to make a difference in our community, to position this revered organisation and the fellowships it offers for the future, and be inspired by people from all walks of life who want to make a positive impact on their communities,” Rachael said.

The 150th anniversary of Churchill’s birth will be celebrated later this year.
