The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust of Australia is saddened by the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s passing today.

We are reflective of the impact Her Majesty has made around the world throughout her life, including her long connection with Sir Winston who served as Her Majesty’s first Prime Minister when she ascended the throne in 1952. This was Sir Winston’s second time as prime minister of Great Britain. He had previously served under the Queens’s father, King George VI, during World War Two. Sir Winston’s connection with the royal family was long-standing.

Her Majesty and Sir Winston were instrumental in their partnership and leadership during an important time in history. Her Majesty’s state funeral is to be held at Westminster Abbey; the first state funeral since that of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965.

In 2019, Her Majesty as Patron of the UK Churchill Fellowship, permitted UK Churchill Fellows to use the honorific ‘CF’ after their names, a signal of lifelong status as a Churchill Fellow. This lasting legacy of Her Majesty’s commitment to the Churchill Fellowship is shared with Australian Churchill Fellows who also use the post-nominals ‘CF’.

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in Australia extends our deepest condolences to Her Majesty’s family.

Her Majesty has been The Churchill Fellowship UK Royal Patron since foundation.

People can send messages of condolences to Buckingham Palace via the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet.
