Erin Roger believes in the collective power of citizen science to help address Australia's biosecurity challenges. Erin is convinced that harnessing communities as a source of early detection data is an untapped area in Australia’s biosecurity response. Such a response is critical for engaging communities in the protection of Australia’s agricultural, fisheries and environmental assets and would have flow-on community benefits of education and empowerment. Erin is an experienced Sector Lead, with strong expertise in strategic planning and management working across both the citizen science and biosecurity sectors in her role in CSIRO’s Atlas of Living Australia. Erin has most recently delivered a suite of citizen science projects for the Office of the Threatened Species Commissioner, which engaged the public in monitoring the environmental recovery post bushfire. Erin is passionate about science communication, and has published extensively in scientific journals and online sources such as The Conversation as well across radio, television and online. Erin is also the former Chair of the Australian Citizen Science Association, whose mission is to advance citizen science through sharing of knowledge, collaboration, capacity building and advocacy. Erin is a trained ecologist, with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Acadia University in Canada and a PhD from UNSW.
