John has been a police officer in the WA Police Force for over 35 years and prides himself in remaining contemporary with the more holistic forms of effective community engagement.

Appointed to the role of the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Coordinator, for Western Australia, John established and managed the CVE Intervention & Support Program. This therapeutic case management program works with violent extremists (including convicted terrorists) and assists them to disengage from their ideologies and harmful behaviours.

The thesis from John’s latest Masters (master’s in criminal justice by research) led John to be selected as the CVE Coordinator for WA, and where he gained his passion to remain in this criminology field.

The Churchill Fellowship will allow John to explore and learn from world experts, the main indicators, and behaviours, that identify a person who is becoming a violent extremist. He then aims to disseminate this information to the Australian community, families and those closest to the Individual, so they become informed and learn where to seek assistance.

John is committed to identifying the best programs and strategies to deal with this phenomenon and provide the community and government agencies (State and Federal) with an awareness, to ensure Australians are better prepared for any future threats to their social cohesion.
