Julianne is passionate about preventing patient harm in hospital. As Anticoagulation Stewardship Pharmacist at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, she leads a multidisciplinary team to implement safeguards around the use of high-risk anticoagulant medicines.

Anticoagulation Stewardship is an emerging essential service in healthcare facilities and is associated with reductions in patient bleeding events, hospital length of stay and healthcare costs. Anticoagulation Stewardship provides an opportunity for pharmacists to lead a service utilising their key skills in medicines management to improve patient healthcare. Julianne is currently leading the country in this space as co-chair of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society Anticoagulation Stewardship Network.

Julianne was awarded a Sydney Research Health Informatics Scholarship in 2019 and a Sydney Local Health District Innovation and Excellence Award for Health Research in 2020.

She has presented at the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Congress and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia Medicines Management Conference. She has also published an article titled “Development and implementation of venous thromboembolism stewardship across a hospital network” in the International Journal of Medical Informatics.

Julianne has a Master of Clinical Pharmacy (thesis on Anticoagulation Stewardship and Quality Improvement) from the University of Tasmania and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons I) from the University of Sydney. She is a member of the New South Wales Clinical Excellence Commission Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Expert Advisory Group and Anticoagulant Medicines Working Party.
