Kate Mahony is passionate about progressing understanding of female athlete health and how to use this to optimise performance.
Kate is a Sports Physiotherapist with over 15 years' experience in elite sport.
Currently Head of Performance Health at the NSW Institute of Sport, Kate is also on the advisory panel for the Australian Institute of Sport Female Performance and Health Initiative and is undertaking a scoping review of female athlete and performance literature.
Across her career Kate has worked extensively with female athletes and teams, including with the Australian Women's Cricket team as physiotherapist and SSSM Manager, as head physiotherapist at the Australian Open, and at tennis tournaments around the globe with the Women's Tennis Association.
Most recently, Kate has been selected to participate in the 2021 AIS Talent Program to develop and support professional development of women in the fields of sport, science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine. Kate is a Member of Sports Medicine Australia, and will be the COVID Liaison Officer for the Australian Olympic Team for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Kate is currently studying her Master of Business Administration aided by reciving a social impact scholarship from University of Sydney to complete this qualification.
Kate has a Master of Physiotherapy, and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sports Science) from the University of Sydney; and a Master of Sports Physiotherapy from La Trobe University. Kate is an Accredited High Performance Manager with Exercise and Sports Science Australia, and a Sports Titled Physiotherapist with the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
In 2018 Kate was a Women Leaders in Sport Individual Grant Recipient from the Australian Sports Commission.
