Mickey Pascoe believes the future is fungi. Mickey spends his daily life passionately pursuing the exciting opportunities for fungi as food, medicine, and biomaterials while running the business which he co-founded, Little Acre Gourmet Mushrooms. However, Mickey wasn’t always on the path to mushrooms.

Mickey’s passion for mycology grew from his deep love of science and the natural world. As a boy growing up with the ocean as his backyard, Mickey always knew he wanted to work in marine science. After completing his tertiary studies, he found himself assisting in research projects around the world including fish counting on the coral reefs of Madagascar and Great White Shark tracking off the coast of South Africa. When work in his chosen field dried up, Mickey’s entrepreneurial side kept him afloat and he ran his own small business for most of his early twenties.

While working as a small business mentor, a chance gift of a mushroom grow kit sparked Mickey’s curiosity and he soon dove head-first into the world of mycology. Naturally, this hobby soon became a business, after Mickey recognised the growing demand for locally grown gourmet mushrooms in Brisbane and the emerging trend of urban farming.

Since its establishment in 2018 Little Acre has seen tremendous growth, with the brand now recognised as the highest profile gourmet mushroom brand in Australia. Along with his partner Amy, Mickey has developed Little Acre from the ground up. He leads the in-house mycology team while implementing novel techniques to improve efficiencies, striving for advancements in the production of mushrooms from culture plate to fruiting body.

Mickey is recognised as a leader in gourmet mushroom growing in Australia and has shared his knowledge with hundreds across the country through his in-person and online mushroom growing masterclasses.

Mickey holds a Bachelor of Marine Studies with Honours and a Master of Governance and Public Policy majoring in Natural Resource Management from The University of Queensland.
