Timothy Stone believes that stories are embedded in our DNA, bind us together and help us grasp the complexity of the human experience.

Timothy is an award-winning producer, writer and art journalist with extensive experience working across broadcast, digital and print mediums.

In the pursuit of powerful stories worth sharing, Timothy deep dives into archives across the globe. His documentaries, shorts and reportage have been beamed into Australian lounge rooms and screened at prestigious film festivals across the globe, including Raindance, Hollyshorts, Cannes Short Film Corner and the Streamy Awards.

Honing his storytelling skills at the ABC, where he worked alongside some of the country’s most accomplished journalists and producers, Timothy produced short documentary series, worked as a field producer for weekly arts show The Mix and covered art and culture for ABC News.

Working as an art journalist, Timothy has passionately advocated for Australian artists, bringing global attention to local issues. As a correspondent for The Art Newspaper he’s covered everything from Australia’s participation in the Venice Biennale, the devastating impact of the Lismore floods on local artists, to the repatriation of ancient Aboriginal petroglyphs in Tasmania.

At the helm of Gatherer Media, Timothy has produced a documentary series for ABC Radio National, created screen content for ACMI’s permanent exhibition The Story of the Moving Image, been a fellow at the State Library of Victoria and in 2021 won a MAPDA for Best Film for Wartime Stories from the Exhibition Buildings, produced for Museums Victoria.

Timothy was awarded a 2023 Churchill Fellowship to retrace the journey taken by escaped convicts that sailed from Tasmania across the Pacific to Japan before their miraculous return to England in 1830. His fellowship will culminate in a major exhibition to be staged in Australia ahead of the bicentenary of their daring escape.
